Technical FAQ’s

  • Audio Problems

Why is the audio only working on some pages in my course?
Not all courses contain audio. For courses that do, audio is typically used only for the unit introduction.

  • Course Disappeared

Why does my course window disappear when I am working in a course?
There is a good possibility that you clicked outside of your course window. When this happens, it seems that your course disappears; however, it is simply hiding behind another open window. Click the tabs in the taskbar at the bottom of your screen to move your course window on top. You can also close all open windows and then log back into your course.

  • Course Not Loading/Frozen

I’m trying to access my course but am receiving a “Page Cannot Be Displayed” message.
Your computer has a pop-up blocker installed that is blocking access to your course. Click here to download instructions on how to disable your pop-up blocker.

I was working in the course and the course froze. What can I do?
It sounds like the course has timed out. Close all course windows and log back in.

I walked away from my computer without closing the course. Now when I come back, the course has frozen on me. What happened?
Your course timed out on you. To prevent this from happening in the future, please make sure that you exit your course if you are going to be away from it for an extended period of time. Close all courses windows and log back in.

If the course freezes, will it save where I left off?
Yes, every course page that you visit is recorded in our database as a completed page. In addition, our course “bookmarks” the last page that you visited, allowing you to return to where you left off when you exit – even if the course locks up for some reason.

  • Course Verification

Why is my course asking me for personal information?
Some regulatory agencies require us to verify your identify periodically throughout the course. To confirm your identify and continue on with the course, enter the information requested. You will have three tries to correctly enter your information.

When I entered my personal information, why was I locked out of my course?
Most likely, you accidently entered incorrect information. Contact Technical Support and we will work with you to verify your information and unlock your course.

I have reached a page in the course that asks me to print a verification form. Why can’t I progress to my certificate?
Certain industries require you to provide us (by fax or mail) with a completed verification form before we can release your certificate. Make sure you carefully read and follow the instructions on this page. Once we receive your completed verification form, we will notify you by via e-mail regarding accessing and printing your certificate.Failure to follow this procedure will cause a delay in the submission of your hours.

  • Flash Messages

My system is asking me to download the latest version of Flash. Is this really necessary?
Yes. You will not be able to view your course or take quizzes until you download the current version of Flash. Click here to download the latest version of Flash.

  • Internet and Browser

What happens if I get disconnected from the Internet while I am taking a course?
If you get disconnected from the Internet, just log back in. When you sign in to the course, you will be returned to where you left off.

How do I check my web browser version?
Click here to run a browser test. To manually check your browser version, open your browser, and then select Help, About… from the menu bar at the top of the page.

Can I take this course with the AOL browser?
Although the AOL browser does not work with our courses, AOL users can still take our courses by utilizing a current version of Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox in conjunction with AOL. Here’s how:

  1. After logging on to AOL, minimize the AOL interface.
  2. Click the Microsoft Internet Explorer icon on your desktop or choose Start, Programs, Internet Explorer (or Mozilla FireFox).
  • Quizzes

I have just completed Unit 1 and can’t take the Quiz. What’s happening?
Sometimes, a student may think that they are taking their online course when they are actually in the free demo. Make sure that you are logged into your account (with your username and password that you selected when you registered) and the course that you purchased.

The quiz won’t load. I have tried exiting and restarting my course but it still not loading.
More than likely, you do not have the correct version of Flash installed. Click here to download the latest version of Flash. When you are finished, you will need to restart your computer and then log back into your course. If this doesn’t resolve the problem, please contact Technical Support.

  • System Requirements

Do I need to use a PC to take the online course? What if I have a Macintosh?
Hondros Learning courses are developed to run on IBM PC Compatible Computers. We do not support MAC use and our Technical Support staff will not have knowledge of the MAC platform. Although we currently do not support the Macintosh platform, we do have knowledge of MAC users who have had success using Firefox as their browser.

Customer Service FAQ’s

  • Getting Started

I don't use my computer very much. Is an online course right for me?
You don’t have to be a computer expert to take our online courses. When you take your first course, make sure that you select First Time Student so you can review our navigation tutorial. This will help you become comfortable with moving around in the course. And certainly, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call our Technical Support department.

How does a course work?
You take the course at your own pace and on your own time. You can take the course in small increments or all at once. If you exit out of the course and then log back in at a later time, you start where you left off.

How do I get a username and password? What do I use it for? What should I do if I forget it?
During the registration process, you select your own username and password. It should be something that you can easily remember. You will use the same username and password each time you log in to access your course(s). This information is entered in the returning students section on the home page of the website. If you forget your username and password, just give us a call.

When the course loads, should I select First Time Student or Existing Student?
Choosing First Time Student allows you to view a brief course navigation tutorial. If you’ve already taken one of our courses and want to skip the tutorial, choose Existing Student.

Can I print any of the course material for future reference?
Some of our courses contain links to additional reference materials and student workbooks. Please feel free to print and retain these for your use.

Do I have to take the entire course all at once?
Our courses are available 24 x 7. And, if you don’t have time to complete the entire course in one sitting, you may exit and return at your convenience. The course will bookmark your location and upon returning, will take you back to the place where you left off previously.

How long does it really take to complete a course?
Our courses are based on a 50-minute clock hour. In the course catalog (when you initially purchase the course), you will see the number of clock hours listed. So, for example, a 3 hour course will take approximately 150 minutes. Depending on how much time you spend reviewing the content and associated materials, your time may vary.

What is required to complete the course?
In order to complete the course, you need to review and complete all of the course content. This may include responding to quick checks, taking and/or passing online quizzes and final assessments, and interacting with the course.

Can I take the course from various locations and computers?
Our courses are designed so you can access them from any compatible computer, in any location.

Can I take more than one course at a time? Can I have two courses open on my computer at the same time?
No. Our courses are designed to allow you to have only one course open at a time. If you try to open another course while an existing course is open, you will encounter a blank white page.

Can I get back into my course once I have completed it?
Yes, you may access your course at any time for up to one year.

  • Course Completion

How do I receive my course completion certificate?
Your course certificate will be presented and available for printing upon completion of the course. This certificate is a one-time certificate and is date and time stamped with your course completion date and time. If you choose to review the course again, you will not get another certificate with a different date and time. Once the original certificate is obtained, you can print this as many times as you need to, during your one-year access period.

What if I can't print my certificates?
Contact us and we will send them to you.

I have completed my course and did not print my certificate or verification form. How do I get those forms if I’ve already closed the course?
You can return to the course to print off any required documents at any time up to one year from the purchase date. When you open a completed course, you will typically be taken to the last page in the course, which is where your certificate or verification form resides. Otherwise, remember that you can use the Table of Contents or Index to navigate.

The certificate at the end of the course prints without borders, what should I do?
This may be a glitch in the course - try closing your course and logging back in. If you continue to have the same problem, contact our Technical Support group.

  • Course Packages

You offer a fixed hour package. Do I need to take that many hours?
In order to make it easy for you, we provide a “bundle” of courses at a package price that meets the hourly requirement for continuing education for your industry. You’ll notice that packages provide a lower cost option than buying each course separately. If you need less hours than the package provides, you may also individually purchase courses (pick your own).

I have already completed one course but now I want a package. How do I do that?
Unfortunately, if you have already completed a course that is part of a package, we can’t convert you. However, if you haven’t started your course and would like to convert to a package, we’d be glad to help you. Just give us a call.

  • Course Status
I haven’t gotten into my course yet, but the My Courses page shows a status of “In Progress”.
Don’t let this confuse you. Your status will change to “In Progress” the first time that you select the course. This is not an indication that you have actually started the course. Your status will continue to show “In Progress” until you finish the course, at which time, it will change to “Completed”.
  • Course Timers

I noticed the course has timers on each page. Is there any way to speed them up or turn them off?
State and regulatory guidelines may require seat-time learning. Seat-time learning dictates that you remain in the course for a designated length of time (typically, 50 minutes per hour of instruction). If your state mandates seat-time learning, you will see a countdown timer to ensure that you satisfy the regulatory requirements for your state and that you have adequate time to review the content. You cannot move on until the timer has expired for a unit of information.

  • Regulatory

Which courses do I need to take?
To find out which courses you need to take to renew your license, check the state website for the related industry.

Are the courses approved for credit?
Yes, all of our courses are approved for credit. For Ohio Real Estate and Appraisal students, please contact the Ohio Division of Real Estate for any additional questions at (614) 466-4100 or at http://www.com.state.oh.us/ODOC/real. If you have questions about approvals for courses in other states or industries, please contact our Technical Support group for more information.

How do my hours get submitted for CE credit?
For Real Estate and Appraisal, you are responsible to submit your course completion certificates to the Division of Real Estate to receive CE credit.

For Insurance and Mortgage Broker (loan officer), your hours will be submitted electronically by Hondros Learning.

  • Navigation

How can I tell how far along I am in my course?
Every page in the course has an associated title. You can see a list of every page title when you click the Table of Contents or Index button in the lower left corner of the window. A checkmark beside the page title indicates that you have already visited that page. Pages without checkmarks are pages that still need to be completed.

  • Purchase Process/Receipts

What is the cost of the course(s) and what methods of payment are accepted?
The cost of each course is located in each industry section. You may pay using all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover).

Is it secure to send my credit card information over the Internet?
Yes. When you are transmitting financial information over the Internet, it is highly advisable that you only do so with a secure connection. Our site uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), indicated by the a  in your Internet Explorer toolbar, which encrypts the connection and scrambles your personal data to protect your transaction.

I didn’t receive my e-mail receipt from your company.
The e-mail receipt may have gone into your SPAM e-mail folder by mistake. Please look in your SPAM folder for your e-mail receipt. If the receipt is not there, please contact Technical Support at online@hondros.com.
